The NRA just got their asses handed to them…

I’ll go ahead and say it…. The NRA just got their asses handed to them. They were unprepared, overconfident, and had no viable planned response. They ended up with a broken nose as a result.

Here are the key takeaways as outlined by The Gun Feed:

Head ‘Mom’: We were ready and waiting for this shooting

– Game plan rolled out “within hours of the shooting”
– “spent the last several years putting into place”
– “caught the NRA flat-footed”
– $3.3 million dollars funding student march
– “Like the movement for marriage equality”
– “you have to change corporate policies”
– Every shooting exploited for “more momentum”
– 1.7 million new supporters, 140,000 new volunteers, 150 new local chapters
– “will be in place, ready to spring into action, at the next right moment”

And, unfortunately, every shooting creates more momentum. Within 24 hours of Parkland, Everytown had received $750,000 in unsolicited donations. Within that week, Giffords had received an additional $1.2 million from 43,000 donors. In the month since, Moms Demand Action has attracted 1.7 million new supporters, brought in 140,000 new volunteers and witnessed the creation of 150 new local chapters around the country. All of it just more machinery that will be in place, ready to spring into action, at the next right moment.

  1. NRA and Trump sold us OUT , Big League ! — ” Take First , Due Process Later ”
and executive order moves against bump stocks told me all I needed to know.

Amazing how many refuse to admit it …. like battered wife syndrome.

    1. You have hit the NAIL on the head… Now we are going to PAY for NOT standing up Fast enough against the anti gun crowed.Thw NRA and TRUMP sold us down the hole. All else I can say is,There is a civil war headed our way and and it will NOT matter If your in the NRA or not. Things will change and it won’t be pretty.

    2. Police will often arrest a suspect based on probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed; due process to follow.

  2. I keep hearing we were sold out …. How ? No law has passed banning anything.
I can go out to my range and shoot right now. All I’m saying is don’t listen to every headline from either side. They all lie to drive eyeballs and clicks. Until some legislation is passed where we can read it … don’t buy into it. The NRA and President Trump are still our best option. Who else will defend gun owners ? This is exactly what the anti-gunners want – to separate the base.

    1. Carp- I live in Florida. We just got our asses handed to us.
1- 18-21 year olds no longer have ANY Second Amendment rights.

2- It is no longer legal to own bump stocks

3- The police can now go to a judge and allege that you are a danger to the community. If the judge agrees, he signs an order, and the police come and take your guns. The first you hear of this is when they knock on the door and confiscate your guns. Sure, you have the right to appear in court and appeal, but the law also says that you do not have a right to a lawyer at this hearing, and the cops already have your guns. So much for due process.

So tell me again how nothing has changed.

    1. I would point out that the people who handed us our asses were the Republican lead congress, and the Republican governor of Florida, AFTER the President and the NRA said that these laws would be A-OK with them.
We were sold out, and NO ONE has our backs.

  4. A few thoughts from someone who has been in the battle for 50+ years:

    1) Our losses at this point are minimal. Let’s get real about bump stocks and other “full auto simulation” devices: They are just that – and they confuse people outside our community. We have been saying that semi-auto is very different from full auto – and bump stocks massively blur that line.

    2) The 18-20 year old long gun ban has only passed in Florida – and it is certainly not going to pass federally. The NRA has already filed suit against the Florida law – and my guess is many other states will wait to see what happens. My guess is that this law will be struck down on constitutional grounds and that the age for all firearms purchases will likely be dropped to 18. In other words, there is a very good chance that this will backfire.

    3) What else did they get? NICS reform? That is supported by the NRA, the NSSF and lots of gun rights supporters, including myself. Why? Simple: The anti-gun rights crowd does not want our current laws to work. Every time they don’t enforce a law, everytime the background check system fails, they do not call for more enforcement, or fixing the reporting to NICS, they call for more gun bans. I have watched the same tactic being used for 50 years. One of the things we must do is demand the enforcement of those laws that are constitutional (lying on 4473’s, felons in possession, straw purchasing, etc.). This will do a ton more that taking guns away from law abiding people.

  5. Rev Warde…

You are correct, however, the anti-2a movement made incremental gains while the pro-2a (at least nationally, for now) gained nothing and are being attacked and are playing defense.

    To share a thought…
Of primary concern is the anti-2a actions following the Parkland school attack. Specifically, the level of coordination and public relations campaign that followed the attack and is still proceding with momentum today with the anti-2a messaging.

This link from above, summarises the tactics: https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/features/gun-control-parkland-shannon-watts-moms-demand-action-nra-w518254

The continued messaging is like none that has been seen before and is greatly concerning for our rights as Americans.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see a coordination of similar messaging and public relations following defensive gun uses/ good guy with a gun (i.e. recent Great Mills High School attack) or instances where a concealed carrier could have interveened (i.e. recent ISIS hostage situation in France).

I feel the NRA or any of the national pro 2a groups could be doing a better job here and am hoping you have better connections with such groups. The recent Omnibus Spending bill contains numerous incremental anti-2A provisions and is a testament to rights being lost and the pro -2a movement being lost.

We are beyond “wake up calls” for action. The article title above is explicit on what the NRA got handed to them. Our National pro-2a groups need a coordinated public relations strategy and action with local support. Action with the law makers only is no longer working.

  6. youre right about all youve said. i got another email asking for more money from nra. i do notice they are putting notices on facebook to join the nra. i think theyre laying back taking in all that is said and done and formulating a strategy to come back at everything thats been said and done since what was it parksvile. ?? 75 students walked out of class IN SUPPORT OF THE NRA. a while back this guy posts on facebook how many gun owners estimate of how many guns and how much ammo we all hold collectively how big gun ownership is. then emphasing all the gun owners who follow the laws. i thought that was a pretty good statement. like everyone else ive been reading alot trying to find the magic solution. in arizona the governor wants to create a restraining order called a STOP order. that police, your family ,counselors can request if they think you shouldnt have your guns for some elusive reason they invent like youre a potential threat or trouble maker. i wrote him and asked/suggested if hed ever thought about having a person be evaluated

  7. my computer messed up what i wanted to say is
to have the accused person evaluated BEFORE the proposed STOP order is isued and the accused has had chance to respond to the accusaqtiong BEFORE they go take their guns.
ive heard the arizona legilature isnt in much of a gun law issuing mood
nothing has been created yea but wrote the governor and told him they should give the accused a chance to respond before issuing a proposed STOP order is issued . i picture the swat team coming to get your guns not they guy youve talked to on the police force before
