Firearms Policy Coalition Applauds Neil Gorsuch SCOTUS Nomination

FPC Applauds President Trump for Nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to U.S. Supreme Court, Urges Quick Confirmation

SACRAMENTO, CA (February 1, 2017) — In response to President Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) President Brandon Combs has issued the following statement:

In nominating Judge Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, President Trump has not only fulfilled a campaign promise but has delivered an opportunity for the Senate to confirm exactly the kind of thoughtful, principled originalist jurist that the good people of the United States and our Constitution deserve.

Since Justice Scalia’s untimely passing, the Supreme Court has only touched on Second Amendment rights — most notably in the case of Caetano v. Massachusetts — leaving a number of bans on the fundamental, individual right to carry firearms in public, common semi-automatic weapons, and firearm parts like standard-capacity magazines undisturbed.

With millions of people in hostile states like California, New York, and Maryland being treated as second-class citizens, a full Supreme Court must once again weigh in on these important issues and strike down the unjust and unconstitutional laws that separate law-abiding people from their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Yesterday, noted constitutional scholar and UCLA Law Professor Eugene Volokh, who co-clerked with Judge Gorsuch at the Supreme Court, said that Gorsuch was “brilliant, thoughtful and temperate.” We agree with Professor Volokh’s assessment of Judge Gorsuch and urge the Senate to quickly confirm him to the Supreme Court.

Moreover, Firearms Policy Coalition will be engaging its hundreds of thousands of members and supporters to request that the Senate confirm Judge Gorsuch without delay.

We thank President Trump for his timely and well-considered nomination of Judge Gorsuch.
