Short Barrel Ammo

Bruce has done a wonderful job comparing the 9mm Speer Gold Dot round with the 9mm Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel round. Its fascinating to see the difference when shot out of the S&W Shield. Spoiler Alert…. The short barrel ammo really sees mark-able improvement over the standard load. Which is really saying something since Gold Dot is one of the premier, tried-and-true loads available today. I’m sold.

City Council/Residents Ecstatic about Banning Shooting Range

Seems like I have been running a lot of these stories lately here on the blog. This time in South Carolina.

From the news account it looks like the residents got pretty worked up about having an indoor, private (members only) shooting range in their area. Thats fine. I am certainly for locals deciding their own fate about what goes on in their neck of the woods, but it seems that there was a great deal of misinformation that caused a sensationalistic environment for decisions to be made in. The Haus Ebbs is talking “advise for the first time gun owner“…

To answer his question, generally my advise to first timers is to go shooting. Often times that alone clears up so many of their misconceptions. Hands on experience and especially with a friend or relative who actually has some knowledge on the matter helps more than these want-to-be gun owners (notice I didnt call them wanna-be gun owners) have any idea it will. Teaching someone about gun ownership by giving them a chance to have hands-on learning is a far greater help than just nudging them in one direction or another on what to buy.

Often times people solicit opinions on what to buy and then narrow things down and make a purchase. For a first time gun buyer that doesnt always result in a successful purchase. For the gun culture, that usually results in a “gun owner” who is nothing more than someone who has a gun boxed up in the back of their closet somewhere. Read Full Post…
